Newly Acquired Resolute Racing Shell Christened

More than 100 rowers, crew alumnae, parents and friends gathered in the McLean High School gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 10 for the christening of the newly acquired Resolute racing shell named in honor of Ken Meade, father of Cammie and Allie Meade who rowed for the McLean High School Crew Club (MCC).

January Is Shakespeare Month at The Alden.

Never "Too Much of a Good Thing," The Alden in McLean has declared January 2014 "Shakespeare Month" and has pulled together a month-long celebration of the Bard which will include films, a discussion with local experts and two performances by the acclaimed American Shakespeare Center on Tour. Prices vary and some events are free. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.

It is playing at 1st Stage, where a merry, talented band of actors take the audience on a frenetic, joyful, ride into the farce "Noises Off." About 1,200 visitors attended the 37th McLean Antiques Show where 50 dealers from up and down the East coast sold their wares at the Alden Theater in McLean on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9-10.

Woman’s Club To Hold MarketPlace Fundraiser

On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Woman’s Club of McLean will hold a fundraising fair featuring numerous vendors, a lunch and dessert concession, a silent auction, a bakery and a raffle. Dubbed the MarketPlace, it will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd., in central McLean. Admission will be free.

Students put on musical version of Louisa May Alcott novel.

When it came to playing sisters, Langley High School students Madeleine Chalk, Jamie Goodson, Kathryn Bailey and Camila Maric were more than up to the task. The four play the March sisters in Langley’s upcoming production of “Little Women.”
