In fact, the skies cleared just long enough for McLean Project for the Arts to celebrate with nearly three hundred supporters during its annual spring benefit at the historic Hickory Hill estate in McLean.

McLean Day a Sunny Success
McLean Day is the town rite of passage for residents, and this year, they couldn’t be happier.
Friends, families, organizations, and businesses gathered festively for the 99th anniversary of the annual McLean Day, held in Lewinsville Park on Saturday, May 17. On the sunny afternoon, mazes of booths brimmed again with visitors, who collected free giveaways, entered in raffles, and learned about the opportunities and products available to them from their Northern Virginia neighbors. From the stage, each half hour was punctuated with a new performance: dog trainers, McLean High School jazz musicians, award ceremonies, and dance ensembles dazzled the crowds below.

Celebrating Chaplin’s 125th Birthday
The Alden in McLean will celebrate Charlie Chaplin’s 125th birthday with an evening of silent films with live musical accompaniment on Wednesday April 16, at 7:30 p.m. A star of the silent era, Chaplin was a British comic actor, filmmaker and composer who rose to fame with such films as “The Gold Rush,” “City Lights” and “The Great Dictator.” Tickets are $10, $6 for MCC district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.
The Alden Awards 15 Local Students Fine Arts Scholarships
Fifteen high school students received scholarships for successfully competing in the 2014 James C. Macdonald Fine Arts Scholarship Competition.
The Langley School Presents ‘Annie’

Handcrafted Jewelry Returns To McLean
McLean Community Center hosts jewelry showcase.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, approximately 40 local artists and jewelers from the Virginia and Washington, D.C. metro area came to sell their work at the McLean Community Center. "All the items at the showcase are handmade," said Sam Roberts, Director of Special Events for McLean Community Center (MCC).
McLean’s Alden Theatre Hosts ‘Elska’
"Elska" makes a debut in Virginia.
"I am Elska, and not too long ago, I discovered a newly formed iceberg." This was the opening line of performer Shelley Wollert in her production of "Elska" which was presented at the Alden Theatre at McLean Community Center.
Newly Acquired Resolute Racing Shell Christened
More than 100 rowers, crew alumnae, parents and friends gathered in the McLean High School gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 10 for the christening of the newly acquired Resolute racing shell named in honor of Ken Meade, father of Cammie and Allie Meade who rowed for the McLean High School Crew Club (MCC).

Never "Too Much of a Good Thing," The Alden in McLean has declared January 2014 "Shakespeare Month" and has pulled together a month-long celebration of the Bard which will include films, a discussion with local experts and two performances by the acclaimed American Shakespeare Center on Tour. Prices vary and some events are free. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.
