Share Hosts Benefit Concert

Local musicians play to support local nonprofit.

Charles Wesley United Methodist Church hosted their third annual benefit concert for Share of McLean, a local nonprofit that assists the needy in the McLean area. Share’s five-fold mission includes a food pantry, clothing room, transportation to medical appointments, family assistance in the form of rent or utility payments and furniture delivery.

‘Ode to Joy’ in McLean

The McLean Symphony performs Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

In its 2011–2012 Season Finale concert on Saturday, June 2, The McLean Symphony (TMS) premiered a new composition, presented a suite of much-loved arias, and performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, 4th movement known as the "Choral," recognized for its powerful "Ode to Joy" theme.

McLean High Wins Four Cappies

Takes home trophy for Best Play.

McLean High took home five awards – including the one for Best Play – at Sunday night’s 13th annual Cappie Awards at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. McLean’s other victories were for Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Play for its production of "A View from the Bridge," as well as Returning Critic and Critic Team.

Langley HS Orchestra Pops Concert Thursday

The Langley HS Orchestra presents its annual pops concert on Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in the Langley HS auditorium. With the theme of "Villains and Gangsters," the concert will include music from "The Godfather," "Psycho," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Phantom of the Opera," and "How to Train Your Dragon."

MPA Paints in the Park

Children, professional artists celebrate McLean Project for the Arts’ 50th anniversary.

As part of their celebration of 50 years in existence, the McLean Project for the Arts hosted a "Painting in the Park" exhibition Sunday, June 3 in McLean Central Park. The community’s youngest artists were invited out to help make cupcakes out of clay and other crafts, while the professional artists were invited to take advantage of whatever inspiration the clear, sunny day had to offer.

The McLean Symphony’s Season Finale, ‘Ode to Joy’

The McLean Symphony (TMS) presents its 2011–2012 Season Finale concert on Saturday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Langley High School located at 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean (route 193), ending its year-long celebration of 40 consecutive years of making music in the greater D.C. area under the baton of music director Dingwall Fleary.

‘An Art Affair’ at Madeira

Students hold art auction to benefit Freedom in Creation.

On Friday May 4, The Madeira School’s African Affairs Club held its second "Art Affair," a "community-wide charity event" which raises funds for the non-profit organization, Freedom in Creation (FIC).

McLean Orchestra Continues ‘$40,000 for the 40th’ Campaign

To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the McLean Orchestra, Wayne Winston Sharp, President of the Board of Trustees, announced a Spring Campaign to raise "$40,000 for the 40th" by the end of the season on June 30. Sharp noted that this will place the orchestra in a stronger financial position to help underwrite live classical music performances, made possible by the orchestra’s 85 professional musicians. The McLean Orchestra has been offering these concerts to growing audiences throughout the Greater McLean Community since 1971.
